Woman in jail after killing new born
The remains of the baby were found buried in Mouangel, Melong subdivision. According to authorities, it is Mrs Eveng Marie Carine’s baby who was killed and buried by its mother. Doctor Christian Leuchi who carried out the autopsy on the dead baby says it is a male child born with 3.5kg and was in perfect health before it was killed.
According to Chief Warrant Officer Bienvenu Raphaël Manga, they were alerted by locals before an investigation started. Mrs Eveng had initially claimed that she had had a miscarriage and had taken gendarme elements to a fake grave before investigations revealed that her story was fake. Interviewed, she confessed to killing the baby but denied that was her initial intention. She declared that she had been through a lot of emotional and psychological difficulty and had consumed herbs in an effort to put an end to her life. Unfortunately she said, her baby had passed away leaving her alone to face the consequences of her actions. It is fear that pushed her to bury the new born silently. She concluded by saying she deeply regrets her actions.
This would have been Mrs Eveng’s 13th child having had eight with her first husband and four with her husband’s brother whom she accuses of abuse which pushed her to commit this act.
The lady has been locked up at the Melong territorial gendarmerie unit and will be sent to prison while waiting for her trial to begin.
