Woman almost lynched for allegedly stealing from shop

Security forces in Melong, Moungo Division of the Littoral region have saved a woman from an angry mob at the Melong central market on September 14th at about 2:00pm.

The woman is accused of sneaking into the shop of a business man and stealing his money.

“I was outside discussing with someone. I didn’t notice her get into my shop. When I finished discussing, I returned into my shop and discovered somethings in disorder. I quickly checked my bag but couldn’t find the money I had kept inside. In shock I also opened the drawer but it was empty. I immediately stepped outside and raised alarm begging my neighbours to help find the woman who lastly visited my shop.” The business man explained.

Fortunately, some of the neighbours recognized the woman and went in search of her. She was found already disguised in a different outfit. She was interrogated in the presence of a large crowd.

“I came and stood by his shop but I didn’t act like I wanted to buy, so he ignored me. When I saw he was distracted, I got into his shop and first served myself some water. Then I opened his bag and took out all the money inside. I also took the money in the drawer and went out. Immediately I went and put on a different outfit so that I wouldn’t be recognized yet I was caught” the suspect told the people interrogating her.

According to the business man she still had the stolen money on her.

The crowd demanded she be taught a bitter lesson but the police who heard of the incident arrived the scene and whisked her to the station for questioning.
