William Ruto sworn in as new Kenya President

“Standing here today is testimony that there is God in heaven. I want to thank God because a village boy has become the President of Kenya” William Ruto said as he was sworn in as the 5th President of Kenyan on Tuesday 13 September 2022.

His opponent boycotted the inaugural ceremony which was attended by some 20 African heads of state.

Odinga alleged that the results of the election were been rigged. A claim which the Supreme Court has ruled stating that the election was free and fair.

Nevertheless, the newly inaugurated president Ruto promised to work hard for all the people of Kenyan irrespective of who or how they voted.

“Their supporters will be my constituents. I will work hard for all the people of Kenya irrespective of who or how they voted,” President William Ruto promised.

The 55-year-old William Ruto garnered 7,176,141 votes making 50.49% while his counterpart Raila Odinga garnered 6,942,930 votes making 48.85% in the presidential election that took place on 09 August 2022.

Prior to his becoming President, Ruto served as Deputy President of Kenya from 2013 to 2022 under former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Rigathi Gachagua will serve as the new Deputy President under the Ruto administration.
