Will President Biya attend the Queen’s funeral?

By Ngala Hansel (additional reporting from Daily Mail and The Telegraph)

Buckingham Palace has not released the full list of world leaders who have been invited to attend the Queen’s funeral on Monday, September 19, 2022.

It is not clear whether President Paul Biya will be in attendance at the historic event where some 2,000 world leaders are expected to converge at Westminster Abbey in London.
What we do know is that all Commonwealth member countries have been invited and asked to send two guests. That could mean President Paul Biya attending with the Prime Minister or the Prime Minister attending with another top government official.

Dr. Dion Ngute was at the British High Commission in Yaounde on September 9th to condole with the British High Commissioner to Cameroon following the Queen’s death.

The only African leader who has confirmed attendance at Her Majesty’s funeral is South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa. Ramaphosa will fly to the US first for interactions with Civil Rights leaders and business leaders before flying to London according to the South African newspaper Sowetan.

It is likely that President Paul Kagame of Rwanda who is the current chair of the Commonwealth would travel to London as well.
Many world leaders have confirmed their attendance of the funeral service at the Anglican Westminster Abbey, including US President and wife, Joe and Jill Biden. Former US presidents Donald Trump and Barack Obama will not be attending the service according to the White House.
Japan’s Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako will also be in attendance as will Brazil’s president, Jair Bolsonaro.
North Korea will send a representative to the funeral, but Russian president, Vladimir Putin has not been invited as a result of the war in Ukraine which the United Kingdom strongly opposes.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine will not also be able to attend the funeral amid the ongoing war with Russia.
The funeral will be broadcast on live television and also streamed online for audiences around the world.
