White South African woman asks to be Zulu king’s bride

By Hans Ngala

African societies are strongly traditional societies and South Africa may be Africa’s most developed country, but that does not mean black people there have abandoned their customary way of life.

Last weekend, a South African woman caused hysteria when she spoke to South African broadcaster eNCA, saying that she hoped the newly crowned Zulu king would take her as his first white queen.

“I don’t know if he’s going to watch this, then he must just know I am here. I want to be the first white queen of South Africa, the first white Zulu queen” said the lady whose name was given as Amelia.

The Zulu nation is the largest tribal group in South Africa and possibly one of the largest in Africa. There are 11 million Zulus in South Africa with the next largest group being the Xhosa.

The Zulus lost their king in March 2021 and it took several months for a successor to be found from among the deceased King’s 28 children.

After a thorough process, a successor was chosen in the person of Misuzulu KaZwelithini. His father was on the throne for over 50 years, having been enthroned at the age of 20 in 1968. He died last year at the age of 72 from diabetes complications.

The request of Amelia to be King Misuzulu kaZwelithini’s bride has received mostly positive comments from South Africans of all races and tribes who said they would be excited to see a real-life twist of Leon Schuster’s Mr. Bones.

While the debate is ongoing, the king or one of his emissaries, is yet to react to the white woman’s request.

The Zulu fought fierce battles against the British in South Africa with one of their notable kings being Shaka Zulu who inflicted great losses on the British before eventually being killed by his own brother.
