West regional council to boost palm oil production in 2023
The council has voted the sum of FCFA 6 billion as a budget which will also focus on education, health, agriculture and sports.
“In 2023 we shall continue investing in education, precisely in the secondary education sector with the construction of new secondary schools and classrooms in needy areas,”Dr Jules Hilaire Focka Focka, President of the council said. This was after their last ordinary council session for the year 2022 which held on Thursday December 29 in Bafoussam.
60% of the budget will be on investment projects such as education with the building and rehabilitation of schools, the health, agriculture, sector.
“We shall also react in the health sector because there are hospitals in the region that are in need of infrastructure and of rehabilitation. We shall also uplift the technical platform of some district hospitals in the region,” Dr Jules Hilaire Focka Focka told the press.
Knowing that the price of palm oil has increased, the Regional Council will try to resolve the issue by boosting local production.
“In the agricultural sector, we shall also react by encouraging the cultivation of palm nuts and coffee because we have plans to multiply palm oil and coffee production firms in the region,” the Regional Council president added.
The sports domain will not be left out as the Regional Council also has plans to build a gymnasium in the town of Bafoussam as part of its investment budget.
“We also have so much work to do in the sports domain as you know, we want to build an up-to international standards gymnasium in the town of Bafoussam so that competitions will also be played here. These are among others, priorities of the 2023 budget,” he said.
These projects fall under the Region’s development plan that was put in place some years ago.
40% of the budget will be used to run the Council’s affairs.
