West regional authorities take measures to fight price hikes during festive season
The fight against price hikes in the West region and the usual scarcity of some basic goods and services are the main priorities of administrative authorities in the region during the festive period this year.
Governor Awa Fonka Augustine said these will be avoided this end of year season. He was speaking on Monday December 5th, 2022 in Dschang as he chaired the region’s second semester coordination meeting for the year 2022 in the presence of the President of the West Regional Council, judicial and security authorities, Senior Divisional Officers and Regional Delegates.
While evaluating the 2022 financial year, it was noticed that during the past months, a general inflation in the prices of some goods such as cooking oil, and the scarcity others such as cooking gaz have been rendering life really difficult for many households.
“We’ve registered of late that there have been price hikes in some commodities. We want to assure you that competent services are doing all to ensure that there are no price hikes during the festive period,” the Governor reassured.
As a solution, the Governor reveals measures taken to resolve the issue this end of year.
“For this to be done, we will make available goods and services in quantity and quality and of course make sure that they are available at affordable prices. This to ensure that end of year activities be carried out in peace, serenity and harmony “.
The government has been blaming this situation on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the effects of the Covid19 pandemic.
The population was also called upon to continue collaborating with forces of law and order so as to wipe out any form of insecurity in the region especially especially during the festive period.
It was also revealed at the meeting that the region has for the past months been enjoying a relatively stable atmosphere in the administrative, socio-political, security and cultural domains.
