West region: Water Crisis, Soon Past Tense
Potable Water nightmare in the West region might be drawing to its end, following the implementation of measures taken to resolve potable water problems in some localities by actors in the water sector.
The Multi Actors Dialogue initiative for Water Governance project dubbed IDIMAG- West during the concertation meeting at the West governor’s Office chaired by the Secretary-General, Gilles Christian representing Awa Fonka Augustine last March 18, took the engagement to better the access to potable water by at least 10%.
From studies carried out, the localities detected that are critically facing this water issue in the region are Bafoussam 1, 2 and 3, Mbouda, Babadjou, Kouoptamo. Close to 87 000 households with an average of 5 inhabitants per household from these localities, making a total of close to 435 000 inhabitants with more than 52% of them being women are expected to benefit from this project.
Although faced with the covid-19 pandemic, the 6 actors involved are expected to work together for the immediate implementation of actions within the next six months as concluded so as to resolve the potable water nightmare.
