24 Bike riders face trial over alleged Ambazonia tie, 16 others missing

The bikers were more than 40 arrested in Oku on April 26, 2022. Some relatives who could identify their brothers said the convoy was heading to a village in Oku subdivision, North West region, to bury a deceased colleague.

But they were all bundled and sent to prison by government forces for allegedly working with Ambazonian separatist forces.

On Tuesday, May 17, 2022, some 24 of these bike riders arrived at the Bamenda central prison in handcuffs, a local journalist said.

“The riders were brought by Gendarmes around 7 PM, Some looked fragile because they had been at the military court all day before being remanded into custody,” a source told CNA.

Though charges against them have not been made public, it is suspected that their trial will be related to the activities of separatists.

Makatinews, following up on the story has reported that the bikers will appear before examining magistrates at the Bamenda military court in the days ahead.

The whereabouts of 16 others cannot be determined.
