West region: Family raises alarm over deceased’s body mutilation

By Stephen Tadaha

A disturbing incident unfolded at the Prestige Morgue in Babadjou Subdivision on Friday April 11, where a family discovered that certain parts of their loved one’s body (notably part of face and a portion of her thigh) were missing during a corpse removal ceremony.

The deceased, Tedongmo Agnes, 48, had been kept at the morgue, which is designed for post-mortem care

“We kept my wife’s body here at the morgue on Tuesday April 1, in a very good state. We are surprised to discover that part of her body has been removed. The keeper told us rats ate the body, how come?” Questioned Simeon Lepontouo, husband to the deceased.

Local authorities launched an investigation into the matter, with gendarmes from Babadjou deployed to the scene to determine the exact cause of the mutilation.

As officials of the morgue preferred to remain silent, some people speculate about a possible supernatural explanation while some suspect that animals like rats may have entered the morgue and caused the damage.

The management of the morgue, which has been operational for just over a year, claims this is the first incident of its kind. They are in collaboration with investigators to clarify the circumstances. The family awaits the results of the investigation and the forensic analysis to understand exactly what happened.

The Morgue features a state-of-the-art dry body preservation system. No similar incidents have been reported at the facility until now.
