By Stephen TADAHA
130kg of cannabis have been intercepted by elements of the National Gendarmerie unit in Baham, Upper Plateaux division of the West, thanks to a special investigative operation launched recently by the West Gendarmerie legion.
According to Daniel Mebouinz, brigade commander of the Baham Gendarmerie unit, it is thanks to collaboration between the population and security forces that the important stock was intercepted.
“We received information that an important stock of cannabis was about to enter our zone. An information we immediately forwarded to the Commander of the West Gendarmerie legion who instructed us to take necessary measures to bring the culprits to book. We immediately respected the instructions from the hierarchy and stopped its progress after a thorough check on the vehicle that was transporting the drugs. I will like to thank the population for their collaboration. We are convinced that the National Gendarmerie together with the population will continue to do great things. We call on them to continue collaborating by denouncing all suspicious acts,” declared the Brigade Commander.
The drug transporter, Awa Tongoua Joseph, aged 64 has been arrested and placed under custody. He was presented to the public on Monday November 20.
