West: harsh weather conditions expected in days ahead

Governor Awa Fonka Augustine of West region has called on competent authorities in every domain in his area of command to sensitize the population and take measures to avoid the consequences of heavy rains that were recently announced in the West by the National Observatory on Climate Change (ONACC) in its seasonal bulletin.

The Governor in a release signed on Monday July 24 2023, also called on the population to take precautionary measures by avoiding settlement in risk zones.

To road users especially transporters, the administrative authority advised that they remain vigilant especially on the Bandjoun – Petit-Nkam and Babadjou – Matazem stretches that are being rehabilitated.

The seasonal bulletin of the National Observatory on Climate change (ONACC) had predicted harsh weather conditions like flooding and landslides in some parts of the country including the West Region during the last days of July 2023.

The localities mainly concerned are Dschang, Bafoussam, Mbouda, Bafang, Baham and Bazou where landslides have been predicted and Foumbot, Makam, Bandjoun and Foumban where floods are highly predicted due to heavy rains above 100 millilitres.
