West: Another Ngouache disaster possible due to heavy rains

Authorities have announced that the Bamboutos, Menoua and parts of the MIFI divisions have been made geographically fragile as a result of the heavy rains recorded this season.

According to the monthly weather forecast report, these divisions will in the days ahead witness rains above 280 milimeters resulting in floods and landslides in risk zones.

Due to this, West regional Governor Awa Fonka Augustine has this August 24th, signed a release informing competent authorities and the population of these areas so they take necessary precautions in order to avoid possible loss of lives and property. These harsh weather conditions according to the governor might also lead to the outbreak of diseases such as typhoid, cholera, malaria, the flu and fever amongst others.

Drivers on their part have been called upon to avoid possible road accidents by taking into consideration the state of the road these days when driving as thick fog will be common especially around Bangangté, Bandjoun, Batie and Dschang. Recommendations have also been made to farmers encouraging them to avoid hillsides and harvest only when the weather is favorable.

These precautionary measures given by the Governor come to avoid disasters similar to the Ngouache landslide that occurred on October 29 2019 and took away more than 42 lives.
