AFCON 2023: Supercomputer predicts Cameroon to finish second in Group C

By Biwah Bryan

The Ofta Supercomputer, a well-known algorithm that uses statistical analysis to predict various competitions worldwide has projected Cameroon to finish second in Group C behind Sénégal, followed by Guinea and Gambia.

The machine has given The Indomitable Lions a 33.5% chance of winning the group, while Sénégal has a higher likelihood at 47.4%.

According to the computer’s formula, the match between Cameroon and Sénégal will play a big role in deciding the group’s leader.

Away from the group stages, Cameroon has an 82.3% chance of making it to the round of 16, a chance of 47.6% of making it to the quarter-finals, and 27.8% to reach the semi-finals while Sénégal further probabilities.

However, the predictions of the algorithm could alter when the AFCON officially begins depending on the teams’ performances.

While Ofta’s predictions have been incorrect in some editions of the African Nations Cup, it has also been accurate in some editions.
