Volleyball: Dschang university club emerges champion

The Dschang University Club are winner of the 2023 edition of the West Regional Cup in the men’s category.
They won the title on Sunday, October 29, 2023, in an epic encounter against Phoenix of Bafang 3 sets to 1 at the Multisports complex of the Bafoussam city council in a ceremony that marked the end of the volleyball season in the West Region.
The ceremony was presided over by the representative of the West Regional governor in the presence of a host of personalities in the likes of the first Vice president of the Cameroon Volleyball Federation, the President of the West Regional volleyball league, Dr Danji Marc, the representatives of the Regional council, the Regional delegate of Sports and physical education and other sports Federations.
Rawlins of Dschang University club who was voted the most valuable player, in reaction said hard work was the secret to his team’s victory.
“It’s a dream come true and it’s the result of hard work. I think we should not remain this way, winning this title means we should double efforts to maintain our position as champions of the West.”
Sunday’s finals began with a match in the veteran category between Boss of Bafoussam and Aigle of Dschang. A match that ended 3 sets to 1 in favor of the latter.
The next game was in the ladies category between Nouvelle Dynamique ladies of Bafoussam and Phoenix of Bafang. The highly disputed game was finally won 3 sets to 2 by Phoenix of Bafang.
According to coach Tameu Olain of Phoenix, the secret victory was determination and hard work.
“The match was a sort of revenge after today’s opponents defeated us in the course of the season to clinch the league title. We had to double our efforts to take our revenge. It’s hard work.” declared Tameu Olain.
Regional league winners were as follows, BOSS of Bafoussam in the Veteran category, Dynamique Nouvelle in the ladies category, and DUC of Dschang in the men’s category.
The ceremony rounded up with the award of special prizes to some veterans who distinguished themselves throughout the sporting season in the West Region. As to what concerns individual prizes, the best blockers, attackers, passers, liberos, servers, and players were awarded prizes in both the men’s and women’s categories and the rendez-vous taken for the next sporting season.
