Indomitable Lions captain Vincent Aboubakar, will need to get a new club before the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, if he wants to be ready for the competition. The striker terminated his contract with Hatayspor on mutual consent after the club got relegated from the Turkish Super Lig.
Already in an advanced stage of his career, with age kicking in, the 33-year-old striker had a challenging time at Hatayspor.
Since joining the club from Besiktas about a year ago, Aboubakar scored just 7 goals in 25 league appearances, which was not enough to save the team from relegation.
He played his last match for the club on April 18. They suffered a 3-2 defeat to Konyaspor.
Despite the difficulty at Hatayspor, the Indomitable Lions’ captain has remained consistent with the national team, leading Cameroon in its AFCON 2025 qualification and FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations comes up in seven months, and Vincent Aboubakar is expected to lead Cameroon in what might be his last appearance in the tournament.
