Victoria United living its highest nightmare in MTN Elite One

Opopo has gone four straight matches without a win.

This is coming after the president of Opopo, Nkwain Valentine, declared that he was going to be the champion of Cameroon this season after his team’s victory at the launch of the season.

Victoria United beat Fourve Azur 2-1 in that encounter.

Since then, Opopo has become a shadow of itself, going for four matches without a win.

They were beaten by Cotton Sport of Garoua in Garoua 1-0, stade Renard beat them at home 2-1, and Fovu Club of Baham beat them 2-1. A match that saw the players of Opopo interrupting play for almost 12 minutes, in protest of a controversial penalty against them.

The most recent is the fixtures of October 21, 2023, where the Limbe-based team did not show up for the game.

Victoria United was hosting Apejes of Mfou on day five of MTN Elite One at home.
Everything was set for the game, tickets were bought, and a technical meeting between the two teams was held. In the end, even with the massive turnout of supporters, only Apejes showed up for the match.

Till now, Victoria United has not made any official statement as regards what happened on Saturday

“If this team is not sanctioned, then it will be clear evidence that the team is being favored by the Fecafoot president” a fan commented on a Facebook post.

“I got info from a source that the game has been pushed to 9 pm Cameroon time. So let’s just wait and see” another said.

On the morning of October 21, the president of Victoria United Mr Nkwain Valentine made a coded declaration unknown to many.

” I am not in football for any gain or to seek for position from the Cameroon Football Federation or the Government,” the president said.

Football lovers are still trying to figure out if his declaration has anything to do with the team’s absence.
