US to Panama with deportation flight

Migrants who may be heading through Darien Gap into the US will now be deported via flights that the United States of America will pay, the AP has reported.

The same report revealed that this is due to an agreement signed between Panama and the US on Monday to strengthen border control further. This agreement was signed on Monday during the inauguration of Panama’s new President, José Raúl Mulino.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas signed on behalf of the US.

José Raúl Mulino said, “I won’t allow Panama to be an open path for thousands of people who enter our country illegally, supported by an international organization related to drug trafficking and human trafficking”

Under this agreement, the US will support Panama with transportation and other logistics to send illegal migrants back to their countries.

Some Cameroonians fleeing war in the North West and South West regions and economic hardship, use this route to enter the US. This now means those arrested will be deported back to the country they are fleeing from to start from zero.
