US Supreme Court says Trump had Immunity
The United States Supreme Court has ruled that former 45th President, Donald Trump enjoys some kind of immunibity in the criminal prosecution for his role during the Capitol invasion in 2020. In simple terms, the President has immunity for acts taken as President and not individual. So If Trump made decisions as President of the US, he has immunity.
The Democrats have said this ruling is a sad day in America as Six Supreme Court Judges ruled for immunity against Three.
This decision will also water down cases at the federal level where Donald Trump is facing several charges.
US President, Joe Biden slammed the ruling adding that there are no Kings in America.
“There are no kings in America. Each, each of us is equal before the law. No one, no one is above the law, not even the president of the United States…today’s Supreme Court decision on presidential immunity, that fundamentally changed. For all practical purposes, there are virtually no limits on what the president can do. It’s a fundamentally new principle and it’s a dangerous precedent because the power of the office will no longer be constrained by the law even including the Supreme Court of the United States.” Biden said on Monday.
Trump said this was a big win.
