University of Yaounde 2 wins 2024 U-games

In this year’s All Varsity Game, the University of Yaounde II, SOA emerged as the most performant university in Olympics, dethroning Yaounde I, who had won the crown in the previous edition.

Their athletes secured a total of 34 medals, including 16 golds, 8 silvers, and 10 bronze followed by the Institute Universitaire Siantou, which ranked 2nd with 35 medals, comprising 14 golds, 9 silvers, and 12 bronzes.

Completing the top three spots was the University Institute Gulf of Guinea, with 14 golds, 4 silvers, and 10 bronzes. Whereas, universities like Saint Jerome, UPAC, IUSTY, and LINAFI finished at the lower end of the classification, with no medals secured.

The two anglo-saxons universities, the university of Bamenda and Buea finished 14th and 10th respectively winning a joint total of of 22 as opposed to the 30 the both Universities braced in the last edition

The university of Buea finished 10th with 2 golds, 5 silvers and 9 bronze amassing a total of 16 while the University of Bamenda got 2 silvers and 4 bronze, placing 14th overall

During the closing ceremony of the Games, the Minister of Higher Education, Prof Jacques Fame Ndongo, accompanied by Prof Narcisse Mouelle of Sports congratulated the athletes and officials for their fair play and spirit of sportsmanship.

He also commended the Rector of the University of Garoua, his collaborators, and all members of the organizing committee, for ensuring a successful one-week event.

Additionally, the University Games will have a new format starting from 2025, where they will be played in four zonal championships and the national games will then be hosted by Ebolowa in 2026.

The four zones and their host cities are as follows:

Zone A (Adamaoua, North, and Far North) will be hosted by Maroua in 2025.
Zone B (Centre, South, and East) will be hosted by Bertoua in the same year.
Zone C (Litoral and Southwest) will be hosted by Buea, and Zone D (West and Northwest) will be hosted by Dschang, both in 2025.
