United Agro-pastoral Farmers Cooperative Partners With ‘La Ferme de Karyn’ For Potato Farming
The United Agropastoral Farmers’ Cooperative has partnered with, La Ferme de Karyn, a centre regional-based cooperative, owned by Carnalice Noumba to plant Irish Potato seeds.
This is the first collaboration out of the Northwest region as the Cooperative extends its tentacles to other fertile areas in Cameroon.
The founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Farmers’ Cooperative, Mogou Christopher after the partnership said it has always been his dream to work in collaboration with other farmers who share the same dream with him.
“You know it has been my dream to test Irish potato in all the regions of Cameroon. We call it test because all the Regions do not have the same climate. As we have made the sample, if it works, we will be going to full production in August, that is our program” He said after the deal.
“I really love doing this with this lady because I have studied her well and seen that she’s somebody who love to help young people. It is also my wish to transfer what I know in this field to the youths”
Mogou Christopher quit school since 2002 and started a new career as a farmer in a small locality of Bambui, the outskirts of Bamenda, North West region. For 17 years, Mogou Christopher has been able to employ over 100 persons who work in his Irish Potato farms. He harvests up-to 1000 bags, three times a year. Today, the 32-year-old farmer has set up a Cooperative to teach potential farmers seed multiplication, greenhouse farming, among others.
Since the crisis rocking the two English speaking regions, he was forced due to relocate to other fertile areas that were secured enough for him and his workers to continue farming.
The United Agropastoral Farmers’Cooperative has also partnered with a South African Company to purchase Potato seeds.
