Unisport fears sanction backtracks on withdrawal from Cameroon Cup
Elite Two team, Unisport who initially withdrew from the 2023/2024 Cameroon cup due to financial difficulties has made an urgent appeal for financial assistance to enable them participate in the competition.
According to a statement released by the team, the budget for the competition has been estimated at 2,332,000 FCFA and includes expenses such as accommodation, meals, medical kits, unpaid bonuses, player salaries, and transportation costs.
The team back paddled their decision to back out of the competition to avoid a first-ever forfeit and monetary penalty for the team in their 64-years of existence
According to article 75 of the laws which govern Cameroon football, the team will face automatic exclusion from the next edition of the competition if they do not participate, in addition to any sanctions that may be imposed by the Football Federation (FECAFOOT).
Same sanction was applied on Ranger FC of Bafut who missed their 2023 Cameroon cup fixture against Union of Douala and as a result the team was suspended from playing the 2024 edition of the Cameroon cup and were fined 5 million FCFA.
