By Nchendzengang Tatah

Fees at the University of Buea will in the 2024/2025 academic year be paid at bank offices. Not more through mobile money service providers.

Over half a decade electronic payment of fees was halted for the old mode. This time, revised with various faculties having separate accounts, as indicated by a notification signed by the registrar, Prof. Eneke Bechem.

While no reasons were put forth, unofficial communications suggest the school’s administration intended to make students free of the charges paid during fee payment. Which is a sum of 1000fcfa. To that, it is considered by some stakeholders a possible bid by university authorities to properly receive and manage income considering decreasing state subvention.

This may however pose a challenge to the student population of at least 25000. Banks are noted for lengthy lines and other inconveniences which are eased via an electronic transaction. Many students have expressed worries at this move in this day of advancing technology. They wonder how effective it will be by resumption in a week.

The University of Buea through its students of the College of Technology further developed the already existing service of Mobile Money fee payment to include secondary education at the Cameroon Developers contest in 2018. They now walk from the services they bettered for the rest of the education system.
