The Under 17 Lions have complicated their chances of qualifying for the quarterfinal phase of the 2023 African Cup of Nations. The defending champions were defeated 2 goals to nil by their counterparts of Mali at the Annaba Omnisport Stadium in Algeria this May 04 during their opening fixture.
The U17 team now have a huge task on their hands if they must reach the quarter-finals of the under-17 AFCON. If they loose their match against Burkina Faso in their second outing, their ambition of retaining the under-17 Africa Cup of Nations trophy won in 2019 could come to an end.
The game is scheduled to take place on Sunday May 7 at the Annaba Omnisport Stadium. The winner of the encounter will join Mali in the quarterfinals.
It should be noted that, the top four teams of the under-17 AFCON in Algeria will automatically qualify for the 2023 FIFA under-17 World Cup in Peru as CAF representatives.
