Two siblings, cousin drown in Babadjou stream

Three kids from the same family have drowned and one survived while fetching at a stream in Touza, a vicinity in Babadjou Subdivision, West region.

The tragic incident occurred on Saturday September 28, 2024 when their mother was at a nearby junction roasting fish.

According to locals, the four kids in the course of fetching water, one of them fell and was carried away by running water. In an attempt to rescue her, two others lost their lives. The fourth child who attempted in vain to rescue her sisters, then alerted nearby farmers who immediately began a rescue operation. The lifeless bodies of the kids were later discovered some kilometers away at night.

Two of the kids, 6 year-old Abigail, class 1 pupil at GBPS Babadjou Toumaka 6 and her little sister, Sephora two years old, had the same mother, while the third victim was their cousin with whom they had spent just some weeks.

“I denied this issue of fetching water when these children came and informed me. I asked them to go home and remain in the house. My children have never fetched water in since they were born, where does the idea of fetching water come from?” Their mother cried out.

I don’t know what I have done to deserve this. I had three children, now two have gone” she continued.

The kids were laid to rest at the family residence on Sunday September 29, 2024.
