Turkey: 76 die in earthquake
At least 76 people have died with 440 others injured following a violent earthquake that stroke southern Turkey at around 4:17am today Febuary 6th ,the Anadolu agency reported.
According to the the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) the magnitude 7.4 earthquake was centered in the Pazarcik district of the southern region of Kahramanmaras, Gaziantep, Sanliurfa, Diyarbakir, Adana, Adiyaman and Malatya .
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 7 kilometers, followed by the second and third earthquakes that hit Gaziantep province, with magnitudes of 6.4 and 6.5, respectively.
The earthquake was also felt in other neighboring countries, including Lebanon and Syria.
In neighboring Syria, at least 386 people died, including 239 mostly in the regions of Aleppo, Hama, Latakia and Tartus, Syrian state TV reported.
Rescuers are still trying to find survivors trapped beneath rubble on either side of the Turkey-Syrian border as the death toll from one of the strongest earthquakes to hit Turkey in 100 years rose beyond 600 persons.
