Transformation of Nkambe hospital to regional annex stirs political debates
By Nukapuh P.
The transformation of the Nkambe district hospital to a regional hospital annex has led to many hot debates, with some Cameroonians questioning what it takes for a hospital to be transformed to that level.
While others say the decision has been made because of the peaceful and the rapid developments in the town, others say the decision has been championed by politicians of Donga Mantung.
On February 20, 2023, the Minister of public health, Dr. Manaouda Malachie signed a press release upgrading the former Nkambe district hospital to a regional annex in the North West region.
“It is actually a confirmation that any contrary voice will be punished. Just be loyal even when your loyalty means you have to become extremely stupid. Then you’ll be given what is normally yours as your reward. Manipulation is abuse but the stupidly loyal don’t see it that way,” a lady whose identity can’t be revealed for security reasons echoed.
Others have seen it as a cause fueled and spearheaded by politicians of the subdivision in order to quickly achieve their political aims, amidst the socio-political crisis.
“I think it’s just a paper name, which is being used by politicians to build their political strategies and strength,” another person commented.
Early on Tuesday February 21, CPDM member of parliament from Nkambe, Ngala Gerald posted on his official facebook page “Nkambe district hospital transformed into Regional Hospital Annex. Fruits of peace and loyalty to state. Like I have always said, life is a choice. Make your choice and assume the consequences there of, special thanks to the president of the Republic”.
Others have been questioning why the Bamenda referral hospital, a project and gift from the Head of State worth billions which has been abandoned for years is left in such a state.
Another group of persons have appreciated the move of transforming the Nkambe district hospital into the first regional hospital annex in the North West region, with hopes that it should really fit its status and not only be a regional annex on paper.
