Traders at new deido market protest demolition of kiosks
Some traders at the New Deido market in the Douala II sub-division on Wednesday October 5th protested against the demolition of their business kiosks by the market president whose name CNA got as Kameni.
The traders waved placards decrying injustice:
“This is unfair! Why has he demolished our business kiosks and allowed those of other traders? We having been paying levies demanded from us. How are we suppose to generate income for the family upkeep? Where should we go?” an enraged trader wonders.
Other protesting traders said Kameni probably decided to demolish their business kiosks because they did not pay the sum of F CFA 113,000 he is requesting from every trader for the cleaning and restructuring of the market:
“Kameni asked each of us to pay the sum of F CFA 113,000 telling us that it is meant for cleaning and better organization of the market. This sum is exorbitant. Instead of reducing it to an affordable amount he went ahead to scatter our kiosks” another trader explained.
According to them, the attitude of the market president they voted is becoming unbearable and he should leave his post.
Kameni, the New Deido market president explained to reporters that he acted following the instructions of the Mayor of the Douala II municipality and this was not his initiative
