“We are happy for the industrial tools, chemicals, and other farming gadgets we have received today. We promise to use these tools to boost local production extensively to satisfy local and international markets”. Abwe Felix of Unique Farmers Cooperative, Tombel, disclosed on behalf of the beneficiaries.
He thanked the Deputy Secretary General at the Presidency of the Republic, Elung Paul Che, for wiping their tears at a time when farm tools and inputs prices have skyrocketed. The items include; industrial maize dryers with solar energy, cassava grinding machines, cartons of pesticides and insecticides, spraying machines, hoes, and cutlasses amongst others. The distribution of tools to farmers in Tombel Sub Division on the 3rd of December 2022, is the second series in Kupe Muanenguba. Farmers in Bangem Sub Division benefitted on the 20th of November 2022.
The distribution for Nguti Sub Division has been scheduled in the days ahead. Other beneficiaries include SUMEDIANG Women, Tombel, Tombel Area Farmers Cooperative Union, Nyassoso Farmers Cooperative, Nyalle Farmers Cooperative, Struggling Sisters Kupe-Tombel, ABOMDEBANE Young Farmers CIG, Help Yourself Women CIG, COMAFA CIG Mboh – Tombel, and Global Ventures Oil Palm Growers Cooperative.
Representing Elung Paul Che, the Assistant General Manager of SODECAO, Enang James Enang disclosed that some months ago, the Prime Minister and Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute had to carry out a working visit to Bangem. He said in order to boost the envisaged visit, Minister Elung Paul organized a series of preparatory meetings and within this framework, requested for farm tools, farm inputs, and equipment from certain establishments, to be distributed in the division during the visit.
However, Enang added, considering that the farming calendar is time-bound and that some farm inputs such as pesticides are approaching expiry dates, they decided to hand over the tools to the various short-listed beneficiaries. He urged them to keep proper records on the use of this equipment, like a monthly and annual balance sheet. Enang was optimistic that the items would make a significant contribution to increasing their yields and livelihood.
While presenting the gifts to the beneficiaries, the Divisional Officer for Tombel Sub Division, Nyam Leonard congratulated the recipients and urged them to make good use of the items.
