The Cameroon Civil Aviation authority warns against construction in airport agglomeration

In its recent report, the Cameroon Civial Aviation states that the Douala international airport with two tarmacs cannot function properly due to houses constructed around causing traffic and reducing international flights into the country.

The Douala international airport now uses just one tarmac, given that the second has been invaded by homes and demolition exercises carried out by government are not yielding expected results.

Meanwhile, in Yaounde, this unfavorable situation could be avoided if measures are taken now. The Nsimalen international airport situated 27km South of Yaounde has been operating since 1991 but between 2000-2020, the construction of houses and businesses in the area have been on the rise. The national civil aviation authority is urging government to stop all land sales and restrict construction to 15km from the airport area in order to keep activities booming.

Douala and Yaounde airports are the only airports that meet international norms in Cameroon.
Reports show that in 2020 the Douala international airport yielded F CFA11.197 billion while the Yaounde Nsimalen international airport yielded F CFA6.273 billion in Cameroon.
