“The Adventure of Thomas” season One premiere thrills Buea audience

“The Adventure of Thomas,” a new series featuring a talented cast of young actors and actresses, has been premiered in Buea, South West Region. The dazzling red carpet event took place on Sunday, November 24, 2024, with entertainers including Albor Gilbert, Ulrich Takam, Senior Pastor, Spako, Rinyu, and other celebrities showing their support for the project.
The movie’s director and producer, Godisz Fungwa, who also played the lead character, expressed that the launch of this first season, consisting of 15 episodes, is a dream come true. “I’m a young person who grew up in an industry where it was so hard to get roles,” he shared in an interview with CNA. “It was difficult to get cast, and I decided I had to change that.” He acknowledged the numerous challenges faced during production, particularly in financing, which he managed almost single-handedly. “There were moments when I felt like giving up; shooting this film felt like a miracle,” he added.
The series follows the story of a young man named Thomas, who fails to graduate from law school after seven years. Engaging in dubious activities, he escapes to a village to hide. The adventure begins when he finds himself in the village square during a fight, and his stolen lawyer’s wig falls from his bag. The villagers, frightened by the sight of a lawyer, start to worship Thomas, allowing him to take advantage of the situation and assert control over the village.
Godisz emphasized the importance of telling contemporary stories that resonate with everyone. He also explained why he took on multiple roles in the production: ” I really wanted to tell by myself that’s why I directed it.It was a story so dear to me. I felt like someone else wouldn’t see it the way I want them to see so. I said I will tell the story, I will act in it, I will direct it, and I will produce it. There was no one else who could produce a film like this and cast me in a role like this. So I said I will give myself this opportunity and so many other young people”
Veteran actress Elizabeth Ngongang was drawn to the series by its trailer and expressed her confidence in its quality. “My hopes have not been disappointed; I urge everyone to watch,” she said after the screening.
Lina Ikechuju Kwe, who plays Mami Dona, the mother of the main character, shared her excitement about her role. “Every scene captivated me, especially the moment I reunite with my son after months apart. I enjoyed every bit of it and wish to write more scenes for myself.”
Nadine Mbah, who portrays Emilia, described her character as the center of attention in the film. “Emilia doesn’t need to do much to be noticed; she is kind-hearted yet knows what she wants.” Despite facing health challenges, Nadine remained energetic and committed to the project. “The director is someone I look up to and respect immensely. He showed great concern for me and everyone else on set. It was a great learning experience,” The young actress said.
With its engaging storyline and talented cast, “The Adventure of Thomas” is set to captivate audiences and establish itself as a notable addition to contemporary cinema. Plans are underway to stream the film on various platforms, including the YouTube channel Godisz Fungwa TV. Godisz highlighted that using this platform is part of his objective to promote young talent. “The only way they can be known is if people watch them,” Godisz explained. Additional seasons and film projects are also in the works.
