Tension blankets general assembly to elect new drivers association president
It was a tensed atmosphere in and out of the Mbandjock council hall where drivers plying the Yaounde-Obala-Mbandjock-Nkondjock highway gathered in a general assembly convened to elect a new president.
The general assembly authorized by the Divisional Officer for Mbandjock and supervised by security officials went on and ended amid tension as the drivers split in two camps: those against the outgoing president, Yannick Ze and those in favour of a new comer.
Those against the outgoing president said he was too strict and unscrupulous. They equally claim his management of this drivers’ association was not transparent.
On the other hand, the outgoing president and his supporters claimed there were plans to overthrow him.
However, the election managed to go on amidst the tension and resulted in the election of Olivier Ze as the association’s new president.
“I am happy to have been elected as president of this drivers association. I will make sure the executive works hand in hand with the members and in absolute transparency” Olivier Ze pledged.
Yannick ZE, the outgoing president, on his part accused the election organizing and supervisory commissions of irregularities and non-respect of the constitutional laws governing the election:
“I have no grudge against anyone. What I feel is that the election was driven to my disfavour with a lot of irregularities.”
Yannick ZE promised channeling a complaint to the D.O. of Mbandjock for another elective general assembly to be convened for a transparent election with all formalities respected.
