Suspended Guibai Gatama snubs Eto’o’s convocation
Guibai Gatama, a member of the executive committee of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) elected on December 11 2021 has said he will not answer present to President Samuel Eto’o Fils’ summon.
Guibai was expected to be in Douala this August 26th 2022 after receiving a letter calling for a meeting of the executive body of FECAFOOT given to him by the body’s President.
Guibai Gatama has reacted via a press release he signed this August 25th saying he will not be part of the session.
“To remain consistent with my commitment to strict compliance with the status and regulations of FECAFOOT, I will not participate in a session of the executive committee convened by a person who is no longer qualified to do so. As a reminder, Mr. Samuel Eto’o Fils, signatory of the convocation of the executive committee of August 26, 2022, is no longer president of FECAFOOT since his conviction on June 20th 2022 to 22 months in prison for tax evasion in Spain and under the combined provisions of articles 36 and 47 of the statutes of FECAFOOT” Gatama writes.
According to him, he is driven by a republican spirit and is showing concern for the respect of the rules governing the federation. He says he will not remain silent nor be complicit in the permanent violation of the statutes and regulations of FECAFOOT whose new executive, under the leadership of its President, has become customary.
“I am all the more comforted in my denunciation because the draft agenda of the meeting which I received includes points for the regularization of the malfunctions which I indicated from the first days of our mandate and which earned me an arbitrary three-month suspension from the executive committee. The new Cameroonian society that everyone calls for cannot see the light of day if it rejects the values of the founding fathers as well as ethics. It must not concede to anyone, be it an icon adored by all, including myself, privileges or immunity from sanctions. Doing so leads us to cultivate the seeds of a society of inequalities and injustices” Gatama adds.
Guibai Gatama moreover notes that what is at stake here is individual and collective ability to go beyond personal interests and passions in order to preserve their common heritage.
