Suspected Separatists destory primary school in Balikumbat
Balikumbat, Cameroon (CNA)– Reports indicate that several classrooms at Government School Nyugu in the Balikumbat subdivision were damaged during an attack by Ambazonia separatists on September 18, 2024.
The destruction of educational facilities has instilled fear and anxiety among the local population. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by communities in the Anglophone regions, where schools have become frequent targets amidst the ongoing conflict.
On September 9, 2024, during back to school, Separatists imposed a two-week lockdown that saw the two English-speaking regions observe school blackouts. It is expected that children will start going to school on Tuesday, September 24.
The recent attacks, coupled with the ongoing “Ghost Town” protests and lockdowns, have created a tense and uncertain environment for residents. While these actions are intended to pressure the government they ultimately impact the lives of civilians, particularly students and their families.
