Sudan: Over 40 civilians perish and several injured in air strike

A local volunteer group in Sudan called the Southern Khartoum Emergency Room revealed in a statement on Sunday 10 September 2023, that over 40 people were killed and dozens injured in an airstrike by the military on a market in Khartoum.

An anonymous witness told the reporters he saw drones striking heavily on Sunday morning, South of Khartoum known to be predominantly occupied by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Being a blame game, the RSF in a statement pointed an accusing finger at the Sudanese army of masterminding the attack, as well as other strikes. The Sudanese army on its part denied responsibility and blamed the RSF.

A spokesperson for the Southern Khartoum Emergency Room, Mohamed Abdallah said the injured women and men had to be transported on rickshaws or donkey carts. He noted the residents of the area tend to be day workers who, cut off from jobs lack money to flee and seek refuge in safer places.

Sudan has witnessed intensified air and artillery strikes in residential areas as the war between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) is far from ending despite a series of peace-bringing efforts initiated by meditators.
