DDR Cameroon: Director urges Cameroonians to protect, reintegrate children

By Nambu Bernadette

The coordinator of the National Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration Committee, Fai Yengo Francis has urged all Cameroonians to strive to protect, reintegrate children linked to armed groups who are in the reintegration centers.

He made the call during the close of a three-day workshop with national and international partners on the protection of children linked to armed groups.

“Everybody should put hands together, so that the children should be followed up. Their upbringing, education, insertion in life as a whole. This concerns everybody, ourselves first, then the DDR, then Ministries, and all our partners of the United Nations,” Fai Yengo said.

According to Abdel Rahmane Diop, the Chief of missions of the international migration organization, they will keep working towards assisting and providing the needs of these children.

“For the past 5 years we have been working with the DDR commission, we will continue working to mobilize help in order to not only respond to their primary needs but also to psychologically accompany them,” he stated.

Since 2016, conflict in the English speaking regions has left many killed while others have been displaced. The DDR centres were created to lure armed separatists to stop their weapons.
