Sports: Paul Biya attributes Lions’ AFCON qualification to gov;t efforts, promises more

By Stephen TADAHA

The President of the Republic has attributed the Indomitable Lions’ brilliant qualification to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco to the Government after their poor campaign in the previous edition in Ivory Coast.

President Paul Biya in opening his traditional address to the Youth on the eve of the 59th National Youth Day, focused on football, acknowledging that the brilliant qualification “is a testimony of to the remarkable achievements of which our talented and courageous youth are capable, by dint of hard work and discipline “

President Biya had a year ago, promised some strategic changes in the Indomitable Lions’ management after their deplorable campaign in the 2023 AFCON.

In sincerely congratulating the brave Indomitable Lions and their managers, Paul Biya in his 15-minute address “urged them to forge ahead this path, to continue bringing joy and pride to the Cameroonian people and to set an example to our youth.” He said while emphasizing that the Government under his leadership will spare no effort to give the Lions all the support they need.

This special recognition to the Lions, comes amid the numerous battles that have been rocking the Football Federation, FECAFOOT and the Ministry of sports and physical education in recent years. Battles which had pushed the National Team to deep performance crisis.

This is the first time in a while that the Lions have qualified for the AFCON with two games in hand. Head coach Marc Brys who faced hard times with Fecafoot said he would not backdown but finish his mandate and fulfill his promises to Cameroonians. President Paul Biya also said the technical bench needed a pat on the back.
