Sports ministry admits to neglect in disciplines other than football
In an effort to clear its name, the Cameroon sports ministry has confessed to neglect. Following rumors online that match bonuses had not been paid to the national football team players and staff, a communique was written by communications head Gabriel Nloga explaining that this is not the case. He however blundered in his last paragraphs where he said that government is interested in all sports and football in particular is of great concern to the state.
This has raised lots of eyebrows among athletes in other disciplines. Just nine months ago, a documentary titled “For the love of the nation” and available on YouTube, exposed the miserable lives most sambo athletes live despite the fact they have won the title of world champions many times before. They are unable to pay rents in the smallest of rooms located in the poorest neighborhoods and their bonuses are never paid. How is it possible then to remain faithful to the state in such circumstances? You can watch documentary by clicking https://youtu.be/ZztWe7KfMb8
It is no news to hear that athletes escape in foreign countries during international competitions in search of greener pastures. This can simply be explained by the fact that they work hard in their various disciplines for almost no pay at all while footballers of the national team live like kings. The lack of balance is blatantly clear and decisions have to be taken. The athletes either have to continue begging for what is theirs and striking in front of the ministry or risk their lives on other continents in an effort to safeguard their future.
Several times, the speech of no minor or major sports has been made by authorities in Cameroon but the reality on the ground cannot be refused. It is more than time for proper action to be taken.
