South West: Limbe sea port to see the light of day in 2026- Gov’t

The government has ultimately decided to consider the construction of the Limbe deep Sea Port in 2026. This follows some studies carried out by the Priority Investment Program (PIP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy.

According to PIP, the construction project will cost CFA 400 Billion and will expand for a period of five years. This follows years of deliberations and discussions.

It is yet unclear on which company will carry out the work.

The project once completed is expected to boost the country’s economic development, specializing in the transport of heavy products such as hydrocarbons, cement, containers and other agricultural products. The port of Limbe will provide better access to international markets for local products, thus promoting exports and foreign trade, as well as attract foreign investment.

In addition to the economic benefits, the construction of the Limbe port is also expected to have a positive impact on the entire region. Related infrastructure, such as roads and transportation networks, which will be improved to support port development. This will open up new opportunities for local communities, creating jobs in construction, logistics and related services.

In an interview granted to CNA, the delegate director of the transitional administration of Tale PAL, Thomas Ndive Mulongo, ex-railed that,

“the PAL complements the strategy of the State of Cameroon which has defined a master plan for ports, which begins in Campo and ends in Bakassi. It is in this sense that the port of Limbe will work in close collaboration with other ports”.

Limbe Port is located in Limbe City, Southwest Region of Kansas, surrounded by facilities such as the Cameroon National Oil Refinery (Sonara) and the Cameroon Industrial Shipyard. It is estimated that the port has an average draft of 14 meters and can accommodate ships of 40,000 tons.
