Skype shutdowns after 22 years in service

Skype, was once a leading video-calling platform, but encountered several challenges when Zoom and other platfroms emerged. The Owner, Microsoft announced that Skype was going to shut down on May 5.

For almost 22 years of connecting people across the globe, the video calling’s sutdown will mark the end of an era for one of the pioneers of internet communication.

However, the owner company said Skype Business shall continue to operate while announcement was also made that users can now join Microsoft Teams for their video calls.

Shutting down Skype will help Microsoft focus on its homegrown Teams service by simplifying its communication offerings, the office software giant said on in February.
