Injured Gendarme rescued by population in Bamenda

The incident occurred this June 16, 2022, in the Mile 2, Nkwen neighborhood in Bamenda, North West Region. Gendarme Mankolo was on duty at a popular spot known as dreamland in Mile 2 when he decided to isolate himself from his group for food in a small makeshift restaurant.

This place is said to be situated in a corridor just a few meters away from a snack – bar known as Madiba. It is there that Gendarme Mankolo was attacked by armed men who shot him in his right arm and then took his rifle away leaving him in the pool of his own blood.

Witnesses of the scene and even people who just happened to be passing by quickly rushed to his aid and tied a cloth around his arm to limit his bleeding before calling for help. In the videos obtained by CNA, he can be seen agonizing but a few voices are heard trying to keep him calm.

He has been taken to the Mile 3 hospital for much-needed medical attention.
