Seven Months Discussion Between CAAWOTU And Gov’t Ends In Deadlock

Members of the Cameroon Agricultural and Allied Workers Trade Union, CAAWOTU, have expressed bitterness on the stalling of talks to end months of suffering.

The Union said on Friday, September 10, 2021, that talks between them and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security have failed despite their suspension of 4-day strike action in plantations owned by the Cameroon Development Corporation, CDC, in the South West and Littoral regions.

These grievances were tabled to the government on February 2, 2021, when talks began but after seven months, it ended in a deadlock.

A message from the Union said, “Trade Union leaders who attended the last Tripartite evaluation meeting on Thursday, September 9, 2021, announce their total disappointment and indignation as Government couldn’t take any meaningful decisions to revamp the CDC mutilated by the impact of an ongoing war.”

CNA learned that CAAWOTU submitted a list of 20 Names of CDC workers who were murdered and hundreds have lost their fingers and hands, as a result of the armed conflict in the Anglophone regions.

“The situation remains very bleak as CDC workers are slimming every day to shutdown rubber factories, Oil mills, workshops, hospitals and jump into the streets,” CAAWOTU said in a statement.

The Social Dialogue established in February by the PM,s Office has failed so workers are tired of unfulfilled promises. The Struggle Continues, ALUTA Continua.
