Security threats, power outage, health issues major setbacks in 2022- Hon. Cavaye

The advancement of the decentralization process, measures to boost economic growth, the mitigation of climate change, and response strategies against pandemics are some of the key aspects that the Members of Parliament noted to address while elaborating on the state budget for 2023.

This was during the 3rd ordinary session of Parliament for the 2022 legislative year which opened on Friday, November 12, 2022, at the Yaoundé conference center.

The President of the National Assembly, Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril outlined said the government has not done enough to secure her citizens since the high rate of insecurity. The leader of the CPDM majority also said Cameroon faced challenges in the health sector, especially the COVID-19 pandemic.

The frequent power outage was also outlined as a major setback with millions complaining of either low voltage or intermittent blackout. The Parliamentarians hope that the Executives will ameliorate the living conditions of Cameroonians.

Hon. Djibril noted that some amendment have been made to the 2023 state budget “ I will like to mention the amendments made to the budget and through which subsidies for petroleum products were increased from FCFA 120 to 480 billion,”

Economic, social, and cultural developments, the need to provide social amenities to the population and improve livelihoods, and the implementation of existing policies that meets the needs and aspirations of an average Cameroonian were some of the 2023 expectations stated by some of the Peoples representatives from the different regions.

For the next 30 days, Senators and MPs will be scrutinizing bills and presenting projects for the year 2023,  then the finance law will declare the proposed State Budget for 2023.
