The turnout for the Second Term of the academic year was timid at Government Bilingual Primary School Babadjou Toumaka, one of the main primary schools hosting Internally Displaced Children in the Bamboutos, with just two-fifths of them who answered present on the first day of the Second Term at the school premises.
According to Mr Achaiangia Aloysius, the school’s headteacher, this timid turnout is due to the fact that most of the children went to their hometowns in the North West and South West Regions for the Christmas Holiday.
He however said “On the second day, the turnout will be satisfactory”
“Most of the kids are based in neighboring Santa Subdivision in the North West and Wabane in the South West and it is difficult for them to travel on day one due to the lockdowns” he added.
In his address to the pupils during the morning assembly, the headteacher emphasized that the Second Term is crucial even though it is three months like the first term. This is due to the numerous breaks in this term, such as Youth Week, Easter, Bilingualism, and the FENASCO Games. Thus, he urged teachers to accelerate the program while calling on children to be very attentive in class.
Teachers on their part who all answered present, were urged to cover the syllabus during this term while preparing to write evaluations by the end of January.
At Ecole Publique (de ou?) groups 1 and 2 of the Babadjou Toumaka School Complex, the turnout was impressive with over 97% of children and 100% of teachers who answered present for the first day.
The same message of concentration and completion of the syllabus resounded in the schools. The Second Term ends on Friday, March 27, 2025.
