SDF party members say they will not march this May 20th

The party say hired individuals they do not know have been taking part in the May 20 parade rehearsals in Yaounde

The Centre Regional Executive of the Social Democratic Front party has chosen to ignore the Mfoundi SDO who had invited Ni John Fru Ndi’s party to take part in the May 20 march past.

According to the SDF, it has no interest in the march past that goes against its Federalism stance in the ongoing socio-political crisis that has plagued the North West and South West regions for several years now. According to the party, marching is the same as brandishing the failed unitary system. The SDF also states that as long as the Anglophone crisis and the bloody armed conflict is unresolved, it will never support the Biya regime or praise President Paul Biya.

In a communique, the SDF Centre clarifies that their main aim in participating in the May 20, 2018 march past was to parade naked in front of the public and hold President Paul Biya’s government responsible for the unending Anglophone crisis that has claimed the lives of thousands of military men and young separatist fighters, 4,000 civilians and displaced over 60,000 persons.  Negligence to address the crisis since 2018 is now compelling the political party to take a stance against marching until the problem is resolved.

Another reason for boycotting the 2022 march past is due to the order of the Mfoundi Senior Divisional Officer for participating political parties to bear nothing other than President Paul Biya’s effigy and praises. This implies the SDF supporters cannot march with the party’s insignia and/or picture of their National Chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi and this to them is unacceptable.

The SDF executive committee has urged all party supporters to stay in their houses. The SDF Centre regional branch also regrets the hiring of unknown individuals disguised as SDF supporters to take part in a march past rehearsal.
