Referees threaten to boycott final day Elite One fixtures

By Stephen Tadaha

Elite One Referees have threatened to boycott Day 18 matches of the MTN Elite One Championship if their dues are not paid.

In an outing made by Ngoon Mbeleck, President of the Littoral chapter of the Association of Cameroonian Football Referees, on Douala-based Radio Equinoxe on Thursday February 29, it was indicated that the referees have not been paid since day 11 matches of the championship.

“It’s now nine day matches that you have not received your wages. Some which exposes you to corrupt practices in favor of some club presidents. The Federation has abandoned us for unknown reasons. I know many Referees will not or are not able to speak out but be assure that on behalf of the Association, I denounce  this bad treatment”  Ngoon Mbeleck told the referees.

He called on the match officials to jointly boycott the final day matches of the MTN Elite One scheduled for Saturday March 2, and Sunday March 3.

“I ask you to boycott Day 18 matches scheduled for this weekend if the wages are not totally paid. Stand up as one. Enough is enough” the official added.

Worthy to note is the fact that referees have been at the center stage of the football season this year with many reportedly being involved in match fixing scandals.
