Reconstruction plan for NWSW regions positive-Minister Paul Tasong

Over 7000 school children have returned to their classrooms in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon, thanks to the rehabilitation of 30 schools and about 20 centers, the Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Paul Tasong said on Friday, July 8, 2022.

The Reconstruction and Rehabilitation plan was birthed by a presidential decree in 2020 to rebuild damaged buildings in the Anglophone regions.

During the 4th session held on Friday in Yaounde, the Paul Tassong led committee equally disclosed that 170.000 people have benefited from 19 newly built water points, 2400 farmers and fishermen have been equipped, more than 800 lost documents have been restituted, 120 start-ups and 47 cooperatives have been given financial support.

In 2020 president Paul Biya initiated the two-year plan, whose ultimate goal is to restore social cohesion, reconstruct and rehabilitate basic infrastructure and revitalize the local economy. The initial cost of implementing the recovery phase was estimated at over 89 billion FCFA. But the plan has been able to raise 11 billion FCFA, with 75% given by the government.

The field mission of the plan’s officials kicked off in Bamenda for the North West Region on June 22, 2020, and ended in Buea for the South West Region on July 3, 2020
