PULCCA partners with WFP to combat food crisis in Cameroon

In Cameroon, 11 per cent of the population are said to be facing acute food insecurity. This represents 3 million people. The results of the March 2023 Cadre Harmonisé analysis indicate that the Far North, North-West and South-West regions are the most affected.
The Cameroon Emergency Food Crisis Response Project (PULCCA) and the World Food Programme (WFP) have signed an agreement to combat the food crisis in Cameroon funded by the World Bank.
Under the distinguished Patronage of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, the ceremony took place on September 29, 2023, in Yaounde.
According to the Minister Gabriel Mbairobe, the emergency program is to fight against food insecurity in Cameroon.
“The program seeks to give humanitarian assistance to people who live in the North West, South West or the Far North regions. We not only want to give humanitarian assistance but also to help these people rebuild, also help the government put in place a system to anticipate food crisis and other crisis,” he said.
The representative and country director of WFP Cameroon, Wanja Kaaria, stated that; “The close to 45M USD resources made available by the World Bank is to support communities in Cameroon. There are activities to support communities who are vulnerable to food insecurity and malnutrition to meet immediate food needs.
