President Paul Biya needs no lessons on democracy-Mincom

The Minister of Communication, Rene Emmanuel Sadi has described a June 5, 2022 discussion between French President, Emmanuel Macron and Cameroonian born, Wilfried Ekanga, as strange and inappropriate.

While in Paris, Ekanga questioned Emmanuel Macron why his country France is supporting Ukraine against Russia to safeguard democratic institutions but collaborating with Paul Biya who has imprisoned several political prisoners.

Macron said he has had several discussions with Paul Biya to create space for democratic practices.

But the Cameroon government sees this as lessons being given to Paul Biya.

Communication minister said the existence of dozens of political parties, the freedom of the press and expression is clear enough for all to see that Paul Biya favours democratic practices for many decades.

He warned that the country will only go after those who abuse democratic institutions.
