Population turns out massively for fourth edition of NQSA annual sports walk
The fourth edition of the Parisx2 Walk4Life took place successfully in Limbe from December 12 to 14, with several activities carried out culminating in a 10km walk on Saturday.
The Njalla Quan Sports Academy had as key objective to go beyond the estimated 1,000 people that have participated in each of the previous editions.
A motivated public in the fight against non-communicable diseases, came out dressed in Parisx2 Walk4Life-marked shirts, displaying messages to sensitize the population on the importance of physical fitness.
The campaign focused mainly on non-communicable diseases.
“The burden of hypertension and diabetes is actually on the rise in Cameroon. As at 2021, the prevalence of diabetes stood at 5.5 percent, that of hypertension is at 30.9 percent” Dr. Fanny Matso, health representative and team member said.
“What is actually scary is that it cuts through a population range of like 20 years to 79. The age limit that we used to have is actually going down. This time around, we have more people in their 20s suffering from hypertension and diabetes” she added.
Participants benefited from medical screening, and health checks valued at over 60,000 FCFA.
The head of the organizing committee, Henry Njalla Quan Jr, said the project is a way of “giving back to the community.” The academy now focuses on the project among other initiatives, as it suspended all football activities following a fallout with the current FECAFOOT administration.
